3-5 days s/p: Post-op dressing removed. Wound care is initiated as appropriate. Non-adherent dressing is applied. Coban wrapping is applied to help with swelling control, AROM is initiated and pt. is instructed in a home exercise program to be performed 4-6 times daily. A tip protector may be fabricated from thermoplastic to help minimize pain and to be worn for only the first 2-3 weeks.
10-14 days s/p: Once wound has healed scar massage and desensitization are added to therapy program. AA/PROM may be initiated if stiffness persists. Splinting may be indicated depending on level of joint stiffness. Silicone tip cap may be added for stump remodeling and strengthening initiated.
